After almost two years of planning, designing and building, we’re excited to officially open the doors to the Clean Energy Training Hub (CETH) at Geelong Tech School.
We celebrated the launch on Friday the 14th August, with Christine Couzens MP officially opening the space in front of key industry partners, representatives from The Gordon and members of the education community.

The Victorian Government’s Clean Energy Equipment Fund, delivered through the Tech School branch of the Department of Education, made the project possible. The funding allowed us to create a dedicated space where students can explore renewable energy, sustainability and future-focused careers through hands-on learning.
From the moment students enter the hub, they can see clean energy in action. A live dashboard displays how much energy the system generates, stores and uses throughout the day. This real-time data helps students connect classroom concepts with real-world technology.
“It’s been fantastic seeing students get excited about the live energy dashboard and realise the energy powering their devices is being generated right here” said Geelong Tech School Operations Manager Matt Hill.
The hub runs entirely on renewable energy. Students can investigate the systems that power the space while learning how renewable technologies support homes, businesses and communities. We also incorporated circular economy principles into the fit-out. The tables and cabinetry use recycled plastics, giving students another tangible example of sustainable innovation.
The large, versatile space can adapt to many different uses. Staff can quickly reconfigure the hub for workshops, industry events, student programs and collaborative learning activities.
The Clean Energy Training Hub will support several Geelong Tech School programs. Students will participate in Reuse Revolution, while two new programs, A Day in the Life of a Solar Scientist and A Day in the Life of a Cyber Security Expert, will also run from the hub. Over the next 18 months, we’ll introduce additional clean energy-focused programs. These experiences will help students explore emerging technologies and understand the growing range of careers within the renewable energy sector.
The Gordon will deliver its new Certificate II in Renewables VET course from the space. The TAFE will also use the facility to support other renewable energy-related units and training programs. This partnership gives students greater exposure to industry pathways while strengthening connections between secondary education, vocational training and the clean energy sector.
The Clean Energy Training Hub reflects our commitment to preparing students for the industries of the future. By bringing together renewable energy technology, sustainability and hands-on learning, the hub creates opportunities for students to explore the skills and careers that will shape tomorrow’s workforce.
After nearly two years of work, we’re incredibly proud to see students already using the space, asking questions and engaging with clean energy technologies. We’re excited to continue expanding the hub’s programs and impact in the years ahead.
