It was a truly inspiring experience that brought learning to life and connected our students with the real-world applications of STEM.
The event began with industry tours to Barrier Group and the State Emergency Service (SES). These visits gave students a firsthand look at how STEM is used every day in local industries. The students asked thoughtful questions, explored current challenges, and began to understand how their learning in the classroom connects to the needs of our community.
Once back at the Tech School, students worked in teams to tackle the challenges presented by these industries. They applied their knowledge, used critical thinking, and collaborated to propose innovative solutions that were both practical and relevant to Geelong. It was incredible to see their creativity and problem-solving skills in action.
One of the most powerful moments of the event was the final presentation, where students shared their projects with staff from the industry partners. The feedback and encouragement they received were a testament to the quality of their work and the potential they hold. It was clear that our students felt seen, heard, and valued.
We were also fortunate to host a Women in STEM panel, featuring Alicia Martin, Dr. Ellen Moon, and Dr. Kaja Antlej. These remarkable women shared their journeys, challenges, and successes in STEM fields. Their stories were not only inspiring but also gave our students a real sense of what a future in STEM could look like.
This year, the focus was truly on the students, their ideas, their voices, and their growth. As a Tech School, we are so proud to support them on this journey.
Events like this remind us why we do what we do: to empower young people, connect learning to the world around them, and help them see the incredible opportunities that lie ahead.
Geelong’s future is bright, and its young innovators are ready to lead the way.
