Future Fashion

Scientific research reveals the many benefits of natural fibres such as wool, as a more sustainable alternative to synthetic fibres.

The National Wool Museum and Australian Wool Innovation are calling on local students to design a fashion accessory that incorporates wearable technology with wool as a principal design element. Students work to a Brief learning key design and prototyping techniques and how to use electronic circuits.

Students consider the fashion and textile industries in the context of technological progress, such as the major changes in the local wool industry and the advancement of smart apparel. Future Fashion empowers students to understand that they can make a difference through design.

Student outcomes

Students will:

  • Recognise that the fashion and textile industries are advancing technologically and have ethical and sustainability responsibilities.
  • Investigate the benefits of wool and research the historical context of the wool industry locally in Geelong.
  • Develop skills with Adobe Illustrator and in rapid prototyping technologies such as the laser cutter.
  • Understand simple electronic circuits and how they can be integrated into a fashion accessory.
  • Experience and reflect on the design thinking journey.
